2011 Status Update and 2012 Sign ups

2011 STATUS UPDATE
We had a great first year running the Grant County Little League. We learned a lot and have listened to all of your feedback and hope that this year is another year of positive growth for our league.

• 275 kids played in the league last year. That was up 35 kids from the 2010 season. We are hopeful that we will exceed last years numbers and hope that you will help us get the word out about sign ups for both baseball and softball players.

• We were notified that a lady from the Campbell County Little League won the car from the Chevy Youth Baseball Raffle Ticket Fundraiser. Thank you for helping your son or daughter sell raffle tickets for our league. We raised $1200.00 doing this fundraiser.

• This was our first year on a lot of things but concessions was one that we were figuring out even up to the last game. We appreciate your support at our concession stands and hope to improve this service for all our players and families next year. We made roughly $3000.00 from concessions in 2011.

We are proud to announce that we will be using the money we made from our concessions and the Chevy Youth Sports Fundraiser to purchase and fund the following items for the 2012 season.

• New T-ball helmets
• New Catchers equipment for the older divisions
• More field equipment for field maintenance
• We have been given another barn up at the Park and we will be prepping that for indoor practices. There will be batting cages and room to practice throwing indoors when the weather is not ideal in the early season. Your coach will let you know when you will be practicing at one of the indoor facilities.
• 12 dozen baseballs
• 4 dozen softballs
• Restocking Concession Stands
• League Insurance

2012 SIGN UPS & MORE

Online registration will begin January 1st.

We will post a link later this week along with date, time and location for live registrations as well. We are looking forward to the season and hope that you and your family are just as excited. We've talked to several parents over the last few weeks and a few questions have already come up. One has been, "What bats are approved for the League." We follow the Little League rules and regulations and want to pass along the latest information about what is approved for bats and equipment this year.

Thanks for your patience.

ALL GAMES CANCELLED 6/11/11

Due to the rain last night we have cancelled all games today. Next week will be a busy we as we try to fit in as many make up games as possible. Contact your coach if you need any information about your specific team.

The good news is, the fields really needed the rain. Watering them just wasn't getting them wet enough to get them just the way we like them.

Girls Softball Slide Show

The Girls softball teams have just started playing. Their season started later than the baseball schedule because we were still recruiting girls to play. But, now they are off and running! I've only made it to one of the girl's games so I know we don't have all the teams featured in the current slideshow. If you have photos you'd like to see in this slideshow please email them to me. I've seen some great photo skills from the moms and dads of our little leaguers!

Oh, and if you were wondering the Opening Day/Baseball slide show has been moved to the very bottom of the home page.

We had a BLAST at Opening Day!

The people working behind the scenes to get ready for opening day were beaming with pride Saturday morning. The weather was beautiful, the fields looked amazing, everyone was at the ready and the games began at 9:00 am sharp! We are so thankful for all the support. We've made quite a few changes this year and as to be expected we've still got some kinks to iron out. Your feedback has been invaluable. And the excitement in the air felt great. We did want to let everyone know of a few things that we are looking into.

GOODY BAGS
If your little leaguer did not pick up his/her goody bag on Saturday please let your coach know so we can make arrangements to get them all delivered.

The Goody Bags included: A Dick's Water Bottle, LL Patch,
LL magazine and a shout out to our Platinum Sponsors.
Thanks to Shawn and Jenny McHolland for getting the
goody bags ready for the big day.

CONCESSIONS
• We will be testing out a new location for the small concession stand near the back T-ball fields. Seems like the 4-H building was not as convenient as we had hoped.
• We will also be trying to figure out a way to get HOT FOOD closer to the ball fields. We have logistical things we need to work out. We also need to ensure we are following food safety code.
• We need volunteers! Please email Cathy Hoehn if you are interested in signing up for certain time slots.

Thank You Williamstown Kiwanis for the
FREE Hot Dogs and Hamburgers to all
our Little League players and for their help
at the main concession stand all day.
Wesley Beach cleaning out the
Bobby Gibson Concession Stand.
Cathy Hoehn, our fearless concession stand
leader enjoying a walking taco. YUM!

THE BALL FIELDS
• Jamey LOVED the freshly chalked lines on the ball fields for the first games. He would love to have more volunteers on hand to help him chalk between games. Right now that's not possible but YOU can help us make that happen.
• If you are interested in helping with any type of field maintenance please let us know. We will gladly work with your schedule. Please email Jamey Lewis

Jamey Lewis, Todd Moore, Brendenn Durnell,
Jeremy Lewis and Terry Peer chalking the fields.

What a beautiful site! Thank you Jeremy Lewis for making

If you are willing to include your photos in this slideshow please email Sheila Lewis. The sooner we get photos the sooner I can get them posted for everyone to enjoy!

Uniforms

Uniforms are in!

The uniforms that are in have been, or are being, picked up by the coaches. You will receive your child(s) uniforms from your coach. Unfortunately there are a few T-ball teams who's shirts are on back order. Those teams/players will be given regular t-shirt (still with GCLL logo on them) for them to wear until their uniforms come in.

We are very excited about the uniforms this year. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Updated Picture Day Schedule

The updated picture schedule for May 7th is below. Pictures will be held at the Grant County Park in Crittenden. Click the image to enlarge and print.

We've been very busy getting ready for Opening Day.

Did You Know?
Please check the link below to see if your child's bat(s) are on the approved list!
Little League has posted new rules about what bats will be allowed to use this season. This is new information and we will be enforcing this new rule for the safety of the children. Little League International's moratorium on the use of composite bats extends to all of its baseball divisions, including the Little League (Majors) division.

By definition, a moratorium is: An authorized delay or stopping of some specific activity. As applied by Little League International, the moratorium disallows the use of all baseball bats constructed with composite material in its barrel unless a specific model shows in laboratory testing that it will not exceed the standard that is printed on the bat, after the bat is broken in.

The moratorium on composite bats, which now applies to all baseball divisions of Little League, does not apply to any softball divisions of Little League.

We know that many of you will have questions about this new rule. If you can not find answers to your questions at the link below please let us know and we will do our best to help you find answers.

You can read the official posting made by Little League International on the new bat rules click the link below. At this link you will also find list of bats that are approved and NOT APPROVED.
